Sharon Mahoney Sends the Comedy Shop Laughing
Sharon Mahoney is originally from Oakville, Ontario. Her career began when she was ten when she performed in an Alice In Wonderland production. She was a student of improvisational acting in Toronto in the early 1990’s, and by 1997 she became a member of the improv group named Spilt Milk located in western Canada.
She began doing street performances in 1999, and out of this developed her main acts the Ladder of Men, Miss Tallulah and Sharon from Canada.
Mahoney was a cast member in Quanta Costa a sketch comedy that ran in Australia which included an all-female cast. She then returned to Vancouver and began doing stand-up. In 2006 she was a part of the Laff Riot Girls competition and made it to the top three.
The reasons are not quiet clear, – although it could be due to their mistaken identity or national pride- but all Canadian comedians almost certainly joke about the fact that they are not Americans. Mahoney however has takes this phenomenon to a new level with a long story instead of just a few lines. The story set in an Amsterdam swimming bath, is cheerful and with pure professionalism. It however needs more crafting and sharpening to be able draw a few more laughs.
Mahoney also does performances dressed like a street clown named Miss Tallulah and focuses much of her material on her nationality, which limits her. It is even less prolific when she ventures away from Canadianism. Her acts also seem to always end in an expected way.
Although she may not be very spectacular, she can confidently deliver and engage everyone in here acts. Some of the unusually impulsive ideas that come to life in the quick set we were looking at could simply be put back into fair enough shape by focusing your eyes. For now though she is happy to enjoy her time doing street acts.
I think I have a solution everyone will agree upon for what we should sort out for Gillian’s pre-wedding weekend. Who would be up for a unexpected trip and putting up a bit of income on some three valleys ski.
